The Texas Economy Sets Positive Records

In the last 12 months, Texas has added over 450,000 jobs. Nine of the 11 major industries in Texas have seen positive growth in that time, including the Leisure and Hospitality, Mining and Lodging and construction sectors. Mining and Lodging, which includes the oil-and-gas sector, added 5,000 jobs during the month of September, setting an annual job growth record, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.

Open job opportunities and affordable housing are the top two reasons people move from state to state, according to Nela Richardson, chief economist for the real estate broker Redfin. Those two reasons could be why more Americans moved to Texas in recent years than any other state.

CNN reports that five Texas cities, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth, were in the top 20 fastest growing large metro areas last year. Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar said that the Texas economy is performing at a record pace, and unemployment rates are well below the averages from other parts of the nation.

Richardson also noted that Texas and other heartland states have two advantages that translate into affordable housing: Plenty of affordable land around cities and easy regulations that enable developers to build quickly. SouthStar Communities has communities conveniently located outside of all five of the fastest growing metro areas.
