The Surprise Luxury of Hill Country Real Estate

“Houstonians flocking to the Hill Country…do not have to give up the luxury they are accustomed to…nor the city amenities they crave.” These are the findings of Houston-based Realtor Denise Graves of Phyllis Browning Company, an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate, who told the Houston Chronicle that Hill Country luxury was proving tempting for Houston clients. They are “are attracted to the slower pace of life in the Texas Hill Country and, just as important, the value they get for their dollar,” she said. “They are almost always surprised by how close to the amenities of a large city they can build or buy.”

Proximity to Austin or San Antonio, “where residents are able to take advantage of fine dining, cultural experiences, highly-rated medical care, major airports and world-class shopping,” are a draw for buyers—many of whom are unaware what awaits them here. “All of this often comes as a ‘real surprise to people in Houston,’” Graves said. "A lot of people assume San Antonio, for example, doesn't have the same caliber of dining or shopping as Houston."

Graves said “the views and the sunsets” as well as the “country club lifestyle" are desired by real estate buyers in the Hill Country—a few of the many reasons they’re increasingly drawn to luxury masterplanned communities like Vintage Oaks. The fastest-growing community in the San Antonio MSA for the past three years lives like a high-end resort but with a relaxed vibe and friendly neighbors, and offers all the advantages of living in New Braunfels, the nation’s second-fastest growing city.

Numerous Houstonians have made the move to the Hill Country, buying New Braunfels land and building a custom home at Vintage Oaks. The community offers an array of land and home options, with 1- to 14-acre homesites, and custom and semi-custom homes.

Vintage Oaks residents Ricki and Eric Holt moved from Houston and immediately found camaraderie in neighbors—“Everyone is so friendly. It is such a big difference from the big city,” they said—as well as an immense appreciation for the lush surroundings.

“We always loved the Hill Country and hoped we could get back here someday. If you’re looking at buying in Vintage Oaks, the first thing you’re going to see is the amazing scenery. It’s so beautiful here. You can just see forever. Every morning is just a wonderful feeling to be able to look out and see the beautiful things around you.”

Residents Gerald and Tracy Schulke echoed the appreciation for the scenery, as well as the resort-style amenities that attract so many buyers looking for a country club-style environment, in a recent article in the Chronicle"Vintage Oaks provides the amenities to which we had grown accustomed, with the added advantage of serene, Hill Country views from every window in our home.”

Those Vintage Oaks amenities include multiple pools including a separate kids’ pool, a lazy river, sport courts including tennis and basketball, numerous ball fields, walking trails, park areas, and a Tuscan Clubhouse that hosts events and activities for residents throughout the year.
