The State of Texas’ General Land Office Honored SouthStar Communities

Texas VLB AwardSouthStar Communities is committed to helping veterans become Texas landowners, and that commitment has been recognized with a special honor. The State of Texas’ General Land Office honored SouthStar Communities for “continued support in promoting Texas Veterans Housing and Land Loan programs to Texas veterans.”

The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) gave commendation to SouthStar for the more than “$1.5 million in land loans that were extended to veterans” for property located in SouthStar’s communities. The honor included a state capital flag and a special plaque presented to the developer during a recent TVLB seminar.

About Texas Veteran Land Loans

The VLB loan program offers Texas veterans competitive financing and low down payments on the purchase of Texas land. It’s the only loan program of its kind in the country and the 5% down payment is the lowest of any loan program in the state of Texas.

The VLB loan also:

  • Is only for properties in the state of Texas
  • Is available for land purchases of at least one acre
  • Caps the maximum land value at $100,000
  • Offers loan terms that are 30-year, fixed-rate
  • Is only available to “bona fide” residents of Texas who have served in any of the United States’ military branches
  • Includes special discounts that are offered to disabled veterans and unmarried surviving spouses

SouthStar’s Commitment to Veterans

SouthStar Communities has a long history of reaching out to veterans, including an ongoing relationship with Operation FINALLY Home (OFH). SouthStar Communities and OFH have partnered on 10 mortgage-free homes for American heroes, including the new home of Army Specialist Cody Nusbaum, recipient of a homesite and mortgage-free home at Vintage Oaks. The veteran-friendly community of Vintage Oaks is also home to American hero and celebrity J.R. Martinez, who recently purchased a double lot.

A number of other retired military and veterans call Vintage Oaks home, taking advantage of the prime location in the Texas Hill Country and convenience to the San Antonio Military Medical Center, the VA Clinic in New Braunfels and Randolph AFB. Vintage Oaks is the fastest-growing community in the Hill Country.

For more information about the Texas VLB program, visit Vintage Oaks or call 800-681-0263. A land consultant can provide you with available properties eligible for Texas VLB financing and explain the program to you in more detail.
