Vintage Oaks could not feel more honored to be a part of this movement to provide homes to wounded soldiers. Colton lost both legs after a “botched gall bladder surgery” at Travis Air Force Base in California. Although not wounded in a war, Read was selected by Operation FINALLY HOME because of his commitment to remain on active military duty. Despite the mental and physical suffering incurred by a routine operation gone bad -- which was required by the Air Force to have before his deployment -- Read has remained diligent in pursuing rehabilitation
Attending the ceremony were office personnel of the developer and builders, members of New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, New Braunfels Firefighers-EMT, Spring Branch Firefighters EMT, Bulverde Fighters-EMT and NB Police Department, who formed the honor guard. After the ceremony, everyone had a traditional barbecue dinner catered by Buck & Ozzy’s Last Chance restaurant in Spring Branch; a flag cake that read: “Welcome Home Colton and Jessica.”
It was truly a memorable and touching experience for everyone in attendance and we were so happy to be a part of Operation FINALLY HOME.
Several news stations came out to join in the festivities. Watch the emotional videos below.
